Kette and Bedobo twin Medical Mission Trip, 2021

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

Ketté, a subdivision located some 480km from Yaoundé in the East Region of Cameroon, Africa, is host to over 40.000 individuals. This rural community harbors Cameroonians and refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR), with which she shares her eastern border. The main tribes found in Ketté are the Gbayas and the Bororos (from Cameroon and the CAR). The languages spoken in Ketté are French, Gbaya, and Fulfuldé.

Like many remote areas of the East Region of Cameroon, Ketté is an enclaved community which is difficulty accessible. The roads leading to Ketté are narrow, bumpy and untarred. The population of Ketté is poor and needy. The needs of this region include sufficient food, water, education, paid jobs, access to quality healthcare and more. Regarding healthcare access, there are just 3 state medical doctors covering the inhabitants of Ketté. Some patients even pass away before they can see a doctor, or because they don’t have enough money to go the hospital.

Mindful of the needs of Ketté, Eden Global Missions embarked on a health campaign project to Ketté. This philanthropic medical mission organization prepared a team of medical doctors, dental surgeons, and several volunteers from Yaoundé and other parts of Cameroon for this project. Also, Eden Global Missions was out to share the love of God in Acts and in Words during this mission. To meet up with this goal, Eden worked in close partnership with the Ministry of Health of Cameroon, Georgetown University for Global Health and Impact (HIV screening), and the Full Gospel Mission of Cameroon.

After getting administrative authorizations for this project, Eden Global Missions began raising funds, and prepared a team of about 20 volunteers for this mission. With support from staff and partners of Eden Global Missions, this project was soon becoming a reality. Donations were received in cash and in kind; the objective remained to meet health and spiritual needs of the inhabitants of Ketté. Also, this was going to be a unique medical and spiritual experience for the volunteers.

The plan was to hold health campaigns and perform minor surgical procedures during the days of the 26th and 27th of February 2021 and hold crusades in the evenings of these days. Two sites within Ketté subdivision were retained for our activities: Ketté Center and Bedobo. Eden played a key role in organizing and coordinating the health team, and the clergy invited from different branches of the Full Gospel Mission.

The team of volunteers left Yaoundé on the 24th of February and arrived Ketté close to 24 Hrs later, after contending with the poor roads and the unavailability of vehicles to Ketté. Lodged and fed by Eden Global Missions, the team was ready to start a journey which was soon going to be an impactful and life transforming one, not only for the beneficiaries, but also for the team of volunteers.

As planned, the medical mission ran smoothly for 2 days. The health campaigns were done by 2 teams; in Ketté Center and in Bedobo each day; meanwhile the crusades were held in Bedobo alone on both days.

Below is data we recorded at the end of the mission.

Medical:

- Registered consultations in Ketté Center: 83

- Registered consultations in Bedobo: 131

- Total number of registered consultations: 214

- Number of minor surgeries performed: 17 (Including circumcisions, dental extractions, and surgeries for lipoma)

Spiritual:

- Total number of persons who confessed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior: 120 (this was essentially during the crusades, and the in course of the health campaigns)

- A new church was planted at Bedobo, in partnership with the Full Gospel Mission.

Eden Global Missions at Ketté ended on a positive note. We are so grateful to God for an outstanding success and a memorable experience.

Surrender to Jesus Christ during an open-air crusade

Equally, we are grateful to all our partners within and without Cameroon for the valuable contributions made to restore the health of many, and their relationship with God.

After Ndelélé in 2020, now Ketté and Bedobo in February 2021, we are more than enthusiastic to serve God more and bring a sustained impact in rural communities.

The new church planted at Bedobo needs our constant support to stay on ground. We have in mind to continue assisting this church, now under the care of the Full Gospel Mission; with spiritual investments and building sustainable projects there.

Also, this mission trip gave us more ideas and a wider view of our needs in other to affect remote areas with the reign of our Lord Jesus.

Some of the urgent needs of Eden Global Missions are listed below. You can partner with us on a regular basis to do medical missions. Also, you can offer a spontaneous gift(s) that will go a long way in assisting to heal bodies, souls, and spirits of men.
