Fleeing from gunshots and war into a strange land could be difficult and traumatizing. Having peace and safety is what many families sought for while migrating to Cameroon in 2014. Following the socio-political unrest that erupted in the Central African Republic in that year, families like that of Djafarou were forced to move to Ketté, in the East Region of Cameroon. As refugees in Cameroon, Djafarou’s family were able to settle-in and receive help that proved vital to their survival. From lodging to feeding, and other basic necessities, these families had things sorted out for them. Through help from the international community, healthcare was free of charge and of acceptable standard at the district hospital of Ketté, and other health facilities in the region. This support allowed families to be stable and thrive.

Unfortunately, in 2020, refugees in Ketté, stopped receiving aid and no healthcare treatment is free of charge for them. This meant struggle for most homes. Now, they do not only have to struggle to eat 3 square meals each day but also must pay for their healthcare.

Djafarou is 3-year-old boy born to refugee parents in Ketté. He was brought by his mom to Eden Global Mission’s health campaign in August 2023. Although Djafarou badly needed surgery for his cryptorchism (undescended testis) and hydrocele, this was not going to be possible. There was no paediatric surgeon in the whole of Ketté and this surgery would be too expensive for them. This was therefore the perfect opportunity.

Eden came in to offer free healthcare and surgeries to inhabitants of the region. Unfortunately for Djafarou and their family, the list of major surgeries to be done was already fully booked, ahead of the campaign. Djafarou’s story was explained to our team at Eden Global Missions, and we decided to give Djafarou this wonderful opportunity that would change his life and help his family.

Today, Djafarou’s congenital condition has been fixed and he is a happier little boy. Unfortunately, the gap remains extremely large to help migrant communities and those in rural communities. You can be of help to our strides and support our humanitarian mission work.

We are grateful to Djafarou’s family for allowing us to publish their story and to all our partners for making such work possible. Please reach out to us for partnerships and support.
